Israel Blocks Global Gambling Sites after Court Approval

israel gambling siteOver the past several years, the unlicensed online gambling industry in Israel was flourishing with any restrictions. It posed a severe headache to the gaming regulators as the player interests were severely comprised.

The gaming regulator of Israel receives more power this week after a court finally gave an order that allowed ISP or Internet Service Providers in the country to block the IP address of three unlicensed and unregulated gambling sites.

The concerned authorities in Israel have been working for quite some time to crack down the illegal gambling market in the country and tighten its gaming regulations for the best interests of its citizens. They also wanted to keep its players secure and avoid from becoming a victim of unlicensed casino gaming operators. The authorities faced a lot of obstacles over the years and met with numerous failures. They had a hard time to block the ISP of illegitimate gambling operators.

The situation changed earlier this week when a district judge named Zion Kapah of Tel Aviv Court gave the approval to block the ISP of 3 gambling operators namely p2vbet.com, 1xbet.com and totobet777.com. This recent decision by the court is a significant victory for the gambling regulatory body of Israel, state prosecutor office as well as the unit for Combating Economic Crime.

However, no information is available why only these abovementioned sites were chosen as the blacklisted casinos. It is interesting to note that p2vbet.com holds a valid gambling license from the Curacao Government and gambling services are not available in the Hebrew language. The gambling body of Israel has confirmed that this is just the first round of blacklisting as many rogue casinos would be ruled out from the iGaming industry shortly.

New Internet Law Responsible for Court Ruling

In the past, it was a Herculean Task to get court approval to block ISP of illegal gaming operators in the country. Things turned out better after the government of Israel introduced a rule called ‘Powers to Prevent Offenses Through an Internet Site Law 5767-2017’ last year. It gave enough powers to the local authorities to block the IP address of fraudulent and suspicious gambling websites.

In recent times, the Israeli authorities have been giving a lot of attention to particular websites that were suspected of selling drugs, promoting terrorism through content, money laundering and child pornography.

Several foreign gambling sites are quite popular with the Israeli gamblers because they offer a wide range of slot games, table games and other special features. Majority of such casinos have a license from respective gaming jurisdictions and are known to offer a safe gaming environment to players. But some shady casinos are involved in criminal and fraud activities that need to be eliminated quickly.

This latest crackdown on the offshore fraudulent gambling operators is likely to have an influence on the working of the legitimate casino operators. This court approval would have a profound impact on the online players residing in Israel. It would be interesting to see how things turn out shortly.
